Tron's tagline is: "In the future video game battles will be a matter of life and death."

And that's not the silliest prediction this movie makes about the future!

Unfortunately many people today don't realize Tron is a comedy. The casual observer is not sufficiently advanced in time to "get" the joke.

Because of this oversight on the part of the producers, Tron's humor will not be considered funny by the majority of humans on Earth until almost 327 years from now.

That's why you need a futurist (like me!) to explain the funny moments to you.

Here we go:

  • Humans write computer programs.

Let me tell you now, this will NOT happen in the future -- computer programs will make humans, not the other way around. A hilarious irony!

  • People go inside of a computer program.

Jeff Bridges plays a hacker who is unwillingly sucked inside of a virtual world. While this sort of thing will be possible in the future, it will be against UN regulation 501.xL7.

Imagine that, someone violating UN regulation 501.xL7! What a knee-slapper!

  • Outlines only?

The virtual world of Tron has terrible graphics. An entire world made of glowing lines? Talk about suspension of disbelief! I could hardly stop laughing!

Tron is a very silly movie that we'll all laugh at in a few decades. But until virtual reality 2.8.4 is invented, we'll have to settle for a few mild chuckles.

That's why I'm giving Tron two stars for now. In the year 2347, upgrade my rating to 4 stars.
