Weird Al's "Straight Outta Lynwood" is a masterpiece of sorrow, unrequited love

Weird Al is a jester; a man jokes. But even an album as funny as Straight Outta Lynwood cannot lift this shroud of darkness from my shoulders.

These sorrowful songs offer little consolation in a universe of pain, agony, and misery.

Songs of woe

I shall describe some of the songs which await you on this album.

  • In the first track, "White and Nerdy", the narrator describes his dark and sorrowful personal addictions, including Dungeons and Dragons, the internet and Star Trek.

  • A track on the second disc titled "Don't Download This Song" offers an ominous and foreboding tale of illegal music downloading. College students everywhere will laugh -- then cry -- when Weird Al solemnly warns of the woes of burning a CD-R.
  • But as though life were not cruel enough already, a most saddening track called "Weasel Stomping Day" celebrates the killing of innocent, beautiful creatures. I wept.

Everything dies

It's difficult to find humor on this plastic disk when we find so much sadness in the world. Why must pleasure be so futile? WHY!!?

When today's headlines are forgotten, this album's humor will be subject to decay. Nothing is truly eternal; except my infinite sadness.

Oh, heaven have mercy; this tortured, meaningless existence makes me weep painful tears of solitude.

Play on, Weird Al. Play on.
