(My laptop is  a windows XP) I forgot my administrator's password  and the only other account is guest. Does anybody know how to recover my password or how I can get in to my account? I'd rather not buy anything or use a floppy disk.

Boot off the Windows CD. You will have to wipe the drive and reinstall.

What about her files and stuff?

I figure she's smart enough to back 'em up first.

But she can't even get onto her account to back them up.

Put on a steeltoed boot, kick, and repeat until you see little bits of plastic and silicon falling out of your CPU.

If it won't boot to the CD automatically, you will have to go into the BIOS settings by holding down a key when your computer starts (read fast, one of the first screens tells you how) and configure the BIOS to try booting off the CD before the hard drive.

I can't give you any specifics about entering the BIOS or changing the settings. It's different on every machine.
